The Canon R5 may be old, but it is still an important camera from the company. It offers a 0.5-inch 5.76-million-dot OLED EVF with a 120fps refresh rate and Dual Pixel CMOS AF. The device is quite well built, and it even withstood the rain with ease. What was great was the autofocus performance, which was incredible. As we said, “It’s fast to focus and track subjects no matter what. Surely, it will sometimes lose focus on them. When this happened, we usually were shooting with a lens wide open at f1.4 or f1.2. It never happened when stopped down.” With updates, we also received bird AF, making the R5 a capable birding camera. The image quality is nice, the colors are great, and photos shot above ISO 12,800 look like a Canon 5D Mk II.
Sony A7R V
The Sony a7R V is one of the best cameras, featuring a 61MP sensor and a 9.44-million-dot QXGA EVF with a 120fps refresh rate. As we said in our review, “The viewfinder, which is still one of the best in the world, makes it difficult for you to sometimes figure out which face is being detected.” This makes the camera ideal for professional photographers. Like the EVF, the autofocus is quick, accurate, and can track humans, vehicles, animals, and birds with ease. In fact, we barely missed a shot. There is also a rugged build, vibrant image quality, and plenty of details to work with. The 10 fps burst rate also makes the camera ideal for wildlife, wedding, fashion, documentary, and street photography, among others.
