See the dust in front of the sensor in the lead image? Well, it’s not going to affect the image quality and it’s also very simple to get rid of. Kolari Vision released their Clip-in filters for what they say is Panasonic LUMIX L mount. If you own a later camera like the S1R II, then you don’t need this. But if you also own something like the Leica SL2s, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. These filters also protect those sensors very easily after you apply the filter to the camera. And truly, it’s one of the best things that I’ve had happen to my Leica SL2s.
Kolari sent me a filter for free after I asked for one for review. It comes in a case with an applicator and the filter itself. The applicator is so that you can put two magnetic strips right around the area before the sensor. After that, you can clip the filter in magnetically to the camera. I’ve done this with my Sony and Nikon cameras too. Very few optics need to go that far back and that deep into the camera body that they’d jam into the clip-in filter.
The variant I got has 1/8 mist on it. Then I attach the very excellent Leica 28mm f2 Apochromatic onto the camera with a Glimmerglass Bronze filter. So I end up having both a little bit of mist, Glimmerglass, and Apochromatic effects in my images. Ultimately, I end up end in love with nearly everything that this camera outputs. It’s to take a bad image. In fact, shooting with it feels like a joy each and every time — but a specific joy. It’s like I’m using a new toy with each and every shot.
In the end, it ends up helping me make photos that I wish the other manufacturers would let me make. Now if only Leica would add multiple exposure to their cameras then I’d be in heaven.
If you want to protect your camera sensor, then the Kolari Vision clip-in filters are incredibly hard to beat.
