Today, Panasonic LUMIX is introducing their new Panasonic LUMIX S 100-500mm f5-7.1 OIS lens for L mount. Notably, this isn’t a LUMIX S Pro lens — and so that means that it’s not something that they’re considering to be part of their higher end product lineup. They’re targeting it to wildlife photographers, motorsports, etc. Also, this isn’t a seemingly rebrand of a Sigma lens the way that Leica did a while back. It also seems to be just a bit slower than the Canon lens of the same focal length. We’re working on calling one in for review, and we’re very curious to see how this will perform. All the specs that you want to know are below.
Panasonic LUMIX S 100-500mm f5-7.1 OIS Important Specs
- $2,099.99 price point
- Assignable focus ring
- 7 stops of OIS
- Dual Phase Linear Motor
- L mount
- 19 elements in 12 groups which include 2 UED lenses, 2 ED lenses, 2 UHR lenses
- 11 aperture blades
- Close focusing to 2.62 feet on the wide end
- 82mm filter thread, so this is huge
- 7.72 inches
- 2.83 lbs
LUMIX’s lenses have so far been pretty darn good and overall very innovative in ways that we wouldn’t traditionally think mattered. But they’ve all performed truly admirably. I’m so curious to see how this one works during birding season happening right now.
It goes without saying, but LUMIX’s autofocus motors have also been some of the best around. So we’ve got really high expectations for how this lens is going to perform for birding, sports, and other stuff. It’s bound to be super fun.
