Wildlife photography is a challenging genre that requires the best autofocus, higher megapixels, and good image quality. While full-frame cameras are often sought after, they are not always the best device for this genre. A smaller sensor can help you achieve more reach, better depth of field, and greater cost-effectiveness. Here is a look at some of the best offerings that can help you get excellent photographs.
Canon EOS R7

The Canon EOS R7 is a powerhouse APS-C camera that features a 32.5MP sensor, a 30fps burst rate, and autofocus similar to the Canon R3. Other features include 7-stop image stabilisation, UHD 4K60p 10-bit video recording, and 651 AF points. The device has fantastic image quality, great autofocus, weather resistance, and is incredibly lightweight. There is also a great hit rate of latching autofocus on birds, and at 500mm, you get usable images even at 1/160th second. As we said in our review, “Wildlife and bird photographers: this has to be one of the most perfect cameras on the market for you at a budget.”
Sony a6500

The Sony a6500 is another APS-C camera with a 24.2MP CMOS sensor, a BIONZ X processor, and 5-axis image stabilization. The device has 425 AF points, a burst rate of 11fps, ISO up to 51,200, and can shoot internal UHD 4K videos. You also get a 2.36m-dot OLED EVF and a 921.6k-dot LCD. The device has fast autofocus, a great feel in the hand, and great image quality even at ISO 25,600. As we said in our review, “A fair amount of details can be recovered from the highlights and the color rendition is overall pretty manageable. The files are highly capable for the needs of most photographers.”
Fujifilm XH2

The Fujifilm XH2 is one of the best offerings for wildlife photography. The device houses a 40MP X-Trans 5 BSI sensor, 8K videos at 30fps, and 13 stops of dynamic range. Other features include a burst rate of 20fps, ISO up to 12,800, and autofocus sensitivity to -7 EV. You also get a 1.62m-dot LCD and a 5.76m-dot OLED EVF. The APS-C camera has fantastic image quality, offers great colors, good street photography, and has good weather sealing. The high ISO image quality is also clean, and the battery life is amazing.
Nikon D500

The Nikon D500 has a 20MP sensor, a burst rate of 10fps, and an ISO up to 51,200. It can shoot 4K UHD at 30fps, has 153 AF points, a 3.2-inch 2,359,000-dot LCD, and weighs 860g. The APS-C camera excels at fast, accurate autofocus, has great build quality, and the battery will keep you on your toes. The image quality is great, captures great details in highlights and shadows, and you can shoot great images at ISO 6400.
