I remember how difficult it was for me to get into photographing birds. Before bird detection in cameras, we’d have to use single focusing points. That was always pretty tough to do. But one of the tricks that I learned about how to make bird photography easier for me still sticks around today.

So what’s the tip? Well, try keeping the bird in the center and even composing for an eventual square image.Basically, by keeping the bird in the center area, you make it easier to be able to capture photos of it. That often means that you’re going to need to pan the camera and lens faster, use tracking, etc. This tip is what I recommend universally across all camera brands as I’ve used them all. And it always works.
You can get up your composition guidelines in the viewfinder to cater to the square format. Or, if anything, just shoot in the square format. It will apply to the JPEG and the RAW will be untouched in nearly every case.
When you’re shooting in square format, it will be able to cater to various places you’ll want to post your images. That means it works for prints, books, social media, etc.
