Today, Harlowe is introducing a limited edition lighting set done in collaboration with photographer Mark Mann. Immediately, when you look at it, the light elicits some very fascinating thoughts. It reminds me a lot of the lighting that Peter Hurley used to do, but adds even more roundness to it. It also looks a whole lot like a ring light, but it’s far more complex than that. If you’re a headshot photographer, this might be the kit you want to get.
Essentially, the Mark Mann kit are four Harlowe blades together in a specific setup creating a type of square/rectangle. Each individual light can have its brightness tweaked as well as its color adjusted to be just right for the effect you’re reaching for.
According to the press release:
Compact enough to travel and strong enough for studio-grade work, the Signature Kit includes V-mount adaptors and a remote control panel for seamless, full-spectrum RGBCW adjustments, offering over 36,000 custom colors, 100 levels of saturation, and color temperatures from 1,700K to 10,000K. Magnetic barn doors and frosted domes deliver nuanced sculpting of shadows and highlights, while Harlowe’s signature 1-to-5 adapter keeps cables clean and power flowing.
If you shoot portraits, it’s easy to get hyped about this. I mean, think about it: it’s the most customizable ring light that you can get your hands on with pretty solid durability and beautiful aesthetics. On top of that, it all comes in a vegan leather case. We’re sure that they fed the vegans quite well before they killed them and turned them into glorious skin fabric.
I’m kidding — but Harlowe doesn’t clarify what sort of vegan leather it is.
All of this will cost you $2,399 in addition to the high blood pressure you’ll get after you click off this article to go buy one immediately — you know, because there are only 30 units available. You can check it out on Harlowe’s website.
