Canon users are always keen to know what the company is up to every new quarter of the financial year. Sometimes, Canon launches cameras and lenses that become instant hits; other times, they may stir some controversy. But either way, Canon is still loved by millions of photographers and continues to be a brand with the largest market sales. While reports of the tech giant announcing new products are plenty, there are some concerns over the delay of new launches.
According to Canon Rumors’ report, there may be a delay in the coming announcements. The article states that “a planned future new gear presentation”, which was originally expected to happen in the second week of May, has been delayed, and it has “yet to be rescheduled.” In the past, Canon gave a glimpse of the device a bit in advance of the launch date. For example, the teasing of PowerShot V1, before the actual launch. However, since the announcement date itself isn’t set, we may have to wait a bit longer.
In addition, Canon Rumors also spoke about the tariffs before, and we did report that the company may increase the prices by at least 10% per the new government rules. As a result, they may face a challenge in inventory in the near future since all camera and lens manufacturers are still figuring out the economic changes.
So far, the cameras that are expected to launch in 2025 include:
- Canon EOS R6 Mk III
- Canon EOS R7 Mk II (Possible V Version)
- Canon EOS R10 Mk II
The R6 Mk II is said to be the first camera that may launch in the next month. However, if the announcement has been delayed, the other camera could also be delayed a bit. However, if not the R6 III, then the R7 Mk II or the R10 Mk II may be teased.
Reports also hint that rebates and sales were supposed to take place in May, but at the moment, that won’t happen in the USA due to the tariffs. This means that anyone who was waiting to purchase a new Canon in the US will have to either buy it now or buy it at a higher price in the country. The article hints that the UK and European Canon are likely to still see price drops. If that is the case, some may find it better to buy it elsewhere and get it to the US.
However, despite what is being said, we aren’t sure what actually may happen in the future. We will have to wait and see how the price hike plays out and whether these changes will be made in Canon USA alone or across other countries as well. But the reports suggest that in the near future, we will see new products in Q4, during the holiday season. That’s the best time to recover sales that have been hit by other factors.
Launch delays are nothing new. This happened before with other manufacturers. What matters is that the new products meet the demands of photographers, who have been feeling left out.
