The Phoblographer’s Editorial Policies are part of what make us unique as a publication in the photography world. We’re a traditional journalism publication that abides by some of the strictest ethics in our industry. Recently, we made an update to our policies around the use of AI. As a member of Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative, we believe in the idea of augmenting what humans can do, not replacing them. More importantly, we use AI as a way to effectively save on costs. We’re not a publication the size of the NYTimes, and quite honestly, we’ve never even seen a million dollars in sales within a single year. All of this is part of our transparency policy.
The latest update involves discussing the use of captions on images. At times, our editors might manually edit the captions. At other times, we use assisitive AI to generate captions of the images. We’re doing this as part of the more inclusive web where various features of the web can allow people with all sorts of senses to understand what’s in front of them.
We encourage you to take a look at our editorial policies page for yourself.
