The Great Photo Awards, organized by the oldest and longest-running photographic printed magazine in Greece, Photographos, now accepts entries. Now in its fourth edition, the contest has several exciting themes and prizes for the applicants and winners. Here’s a look at the contest.

Photographos is a member of the Technical Image Press Association, a renowned organization that awards the best gear in the industry. For the new edition, The Great Photo Awards has a new theme: Humanity World. This theme hopes to celebrate the emotional depth and universal connections that make humankind so distinct.
Those submitting their photographs must choose works that best represent or interpret this theme. For instance, people can submit images that showcase the diverse communities and cultures around the world. At the same time, allowing photographers to use their skills and talents in a range of subjects or stick to what they are best at. Furthermore, it is a great opportunity to explore the intricate stories of people that shape our society.
Categories
- Portrait: Participants can submit traditional and modern portraiture showcasing the individual’s emotions and essence.
- Street: This category is for those who like to capture urban environments and showcase the vibrancy and diversity of human interactions. The images can also examine social issues in public spaces.
- Travel: Travel photographs must showcase the cultural and ethnic aspects of different places. The contest encourages participants to highlight how identity and location are interconnected and how human experiences differ across the globe.
- Architecture: This category urges participants to examine the relationship between humans and their built environment. Today, architecture reflects local communities’ social, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds, so it must be able to capture these qualities.
- Culture & Traditions: This can mean documenting varied traditional customs and rituals that define various cultures. Participants can capture festivals, ceremonies, or everyday practices; but the aim is to highlight how identities are formed and legacies are passed down.
Prizes
While there is a grand prize winner, the Great Photo Awards has not yet been disclosed. However, category winners get a chance to receive a package from Retouch4me, which includes AI-based plugging for photographers. In addition, there is also category winner will receive €250 in cash.
The winning images will also be showcased in the Photographos magazine and featured in an online portfolio on the official website, www.photo.gr, as well as on social media platforms. Shortlisted images, too, have the chance to be exhibited at a prominent venue. But the details have not yet been disclosed. The publically voted 10 photographs in each category will also receive an honorable mention and be uploaded to the virtual gallery for international exposure.
Awards for Greek Participants
The local participants will also get a range of prizes. This includes a Canon SELPHY QX20 portable printer, a Canon Zoemini S2 instant camera, Sony WF-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones, and the Fujifilm Instax mini Evo, among others. These local gifts are awarded based on the jury’s rankings, with the exception of category winners.
The Great Photo Awards is an opportunity for both amateurs and professional photographers to test new waters. Their work will open up to a whole new region, and perhaps, will lead to more exposure than before.
