A museum is the best place for photographers to spend some time and get a better understanding of the past. While photography museums depict the most iconic moments in the medium’s history, camera museums are gateways to seeing how we reached the present. If you are looking at the latter, then you have come to the right place. Nikon Museum, located in Nishioi, Japan, has reopened after its initial shutdown in February. And what’s more? The place is far bigger and better!

The New Nikon Museum Looks Amazing
The original Nikon Museum was located in Shinagawa and established in 2015 to mark the company’s 100th anniversary. Since then, the place has become a shrine for Nikon fans who want to see the company’s milestones. The new museum takes this a step further and offers an extra 670 square meters of space. Thus, if you are amazed at the old one, the new Nikon Museum will seriously blow your mind away.
Whoever visits will now get the opportunity to see 1,300 items from Nikon, including 500 cameras such as Nikon Model I and Nikon F. The former was Nikon’s first camera, launched in 1948, while the latter was an SLR released in 1959. Of course, you will also discover some of their most iconic lenses on showcase. The admission fee is free, and those who visit will also get to see other equipment beyond photographic gear: space development, binoculars, and spectacles. In addition, the museum also features four zones: Entrance, Industry, Consumer, and Theater. There are also shops where Nikonians can purchase gifts.

The museum opened on October 12 and will be open throughout the week except Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays. For more information, visit Nikon’s website.
Why You Should Not Miss This When You Visit Japan
Throughout its history, Nikon has produced some of the most excellent photographic gear, which may or may not be known to you. For instance, the Nikon F2, an SLR camera, is hands-down one of their best cameras. In our review, we mentioned how the device, despite being heavy, produces the best images. In fact, the Zf, the company’s latest digital offering, somewhat has been inspired by the Nikon F2. Similarly, getting a chance to look at Nikomat EL will also be quite an experience. When you compare the older cameras to the newer models, you will notice how far we have come. Despite being vintage, these devices remain the best ergonomically designed devices.

A few videos have also been recently released, which were reported by Nikon Rumors. You can see through how Nikon has quite intelligently designed the museum. In addition to existing cameras and lenses, there is a section for prototypes, which you probably won’t find anywhere. Interestingly, the museum also notes the history of the company, which includes how Nikon reached the stage they did today. The theatre is also an exceptional offering, where you can watch original Nikon films. However, we have yet to see how they unitize the space.
Although new, the Nikon Museum holds a lot of potential and will likely also feature exciting photographic exhibitions. The space is certainly a must-visit for both beginners and professional photographers. You will learn a lot about photography, and have fun while doing so.
