Highlights of the Tamron 28-300mm F4-7.1 Di III VC VXD
While mirrorless technology does allow you to move around with a relatively lighter load on your back, carrying a handful of lenses isn’t something everyone enjoys. This is where a lens like this comes in very handy. Traveling around the world for pictures just became a lot more convenient for many Sony amateur and semi-pro users. You can shoot wide-angle scenes and still zoom in considerably without having to move at all. Tamron has equipped this lens with some very handy features and technology.
That All-encompassing 10.7x Zoom Range
No more worrying about losing a distant shot because you fumbled with your bag to find the right lens to change. Tamron states that the latest 28-300mm F/4-7.1 was developed in response to their users’ comments that 200mm was still too short for an all-in-one lens. This is the third iteration of this model, as the III in the name designates, the first two being launched in 1992 and 2014. It is the first lens in this focal range created exclusively for their mirrorless mount camera users.
This single lens allows shooting in everyday life and during travel, including landscapes, snapshots, portraits and sports photography. It’s an extremely versatile lens that lets users take photos in any situation of any subject without changing lenses

Consisting of 20 elements in 13 groups. It includes one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens element and an LD (Low Dispersion) lens element to efficiently control chromatic aberration. At the same time, BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating suppresses ghosting and flare.
Fast Autofocus; Steady Stabilization
Tamron has constructed this lens in a compact manner, with a length of just 5” (126mm) and a weight of 21.5 oz. (610g), something that photographers who love shooting for long hours during travels and hikes will appreciate. Its linear motor focus mechanism, the VXD autofocus drive, ensures that autofocus on 28-300mm F/4-7.1 VC lenses is anything but slow. It also helps keep autofocus as silent as possible across the focal range when used in both photo and video modes.
Tamron’s proprietary VC technology lets users shoot tack-sharp photos, especially when zoomed in all the way at 300mm.
Convenience and Compatibility
It’s the little things that set apart one lens from another, and they has added a few things to make your photography supremely convenient with the Tamron 28-300mm F4-7.1 Di III VC VXD. The filter thread size is 67mm, the same as what it is on most of their other mirrorless lenses. A focus set button helps you recall and adjust camera functions quickly. The zoom lock switch prevents accidental extension of the lens barrel when carrying the camera and mounted lens on a neck strap.
This lens is also fully compatible with Sony mirrorless technology like Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF

I’ll admit it: back in my DSLR days, super telephoto lenses never really won me over. They often felt subpar—not in terms of build quality, but in the results they delivered. Images from these lenses tended to be soft, especially at their longest focal lengths, and chromatic aberration was a frequent issue. Sure, they were sufficient for beginners needing an all-purpose lens, but they rarely impressed. This has turned 180 degrees in the era of mirrorless technology. Modern mirrorless cameras excel at mitigating lens flaws, offering swift focusing, enhanced features like vibration control, and remarkably quieter autofocus.
Owning such a lens now means not worrying about what lens to pick out of your bag for different scenarios. At just USD 899, the new Tamron 28-300mm F/4-7.1 VC lets Sony users take photos in an extremely wide range of situations with just one lens. We hope to see this lens available coming out in various other mirrorless mount options too. Tamron continues to impress with new releases and keeps mirrorless photographers spoilt for choice.
