If you wanted a smaller, lightweight primary zoom lens for Nikon cameras, then the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 is a fantastic option for you. Last month, we updated our full review of that lens to see how it performs on Nikon cameras. And we’re elated to say that it’s just as incredible and great as it is on Sony cameras.
Here’s the updated text from our Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 review, which you can read in full here. Want one? Check them out here on Amazon.

Tamron recently announced that this lens would be coming to the Nikon Z mount. This is wonderful news, as previously, Nikon rebadged the original version and bumped up the price. However, now Nikon photographers have access to the newer lens, but without the Nikon name on it. If you’re really a stickler for the name, I implore you to let a bit more love into your heart of stone. For several years now, 3rd party lenses have been in incredible.
So how does the new Tamon 28-75mm f2.8 G2 perform on Nikon z bodies? Well, just as great as it ever was. It’s sharp, has a bit of character, beautiful colors, etc. But it’s also very lightweight and built insanely well overall. The only thing that felt a bit weird is the lack of effective focus confirmation in the AF-C modes. However, the Tamron lens was able to keep up in tons of different situations when used on the Nikon Z8.

Honestly, there isn’t just to say here. It’s just as sturdy as the Sony variant — which makes it among some of the most durable lenses on the market. If you’re not worried about weather resistance, then you’ll eventually be worried about how it will affect your autofocus performance. But with this lens, you’re pretty much guaranteed that the autofocus performance won’t really degrade that badly due to how well-sealed this lens is.
Would I get it over the 35-150mm f2-2.8? Well, if you want a more lightweight option, then go for the 28-75mm G2. But if you want more innovation and only want to carry a single lens, then consider the 35-150mm f2-2.8. To this day, there isn’t anything truly like it on the market.
