Apart from announcing the development of the high-end EOS R5, Canon also introduced a bunch of new products for photographers to expand their creativity with.
Looking for some new creative tools to further your photography projects? If you’re a Canon photographer, the company has a bunch of freshly launched products for you: a new RF lens, a new cloud platform, and a square portable printer. This announcement comes alongside the news of the development of the high-end Canon EOS R5, so while waiting for that, you might want to explore these other tools in the meantime.
RF 24-105mm STM Standard Zoom Lens
Still missing a zoom lens to your lineup of RF lenses? The company just dropped the RF 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM, a standard zoom lens that promises to deliver quality output at an affordable price. Measuring 3.5 in (88.8mm) in length and weighing 13.9oz (395g), it’s a perfect everyday carry for photographers who need extra reach from the long zoom range. This new lens also comes with Optical Image Stabilization teechnology to help the with camera shake up to five stops. The Movie Servo AF using STM (stepping-motor) Technology also works with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF on compatible Canon Full Frame Cameras to provide fast auto focus for both still images and videos.
Other noteworthy features of this new standard zoom lens include:
- Control Ring for Direct Setting Changes
- 12-pin Communication System
- Maximum Magnification of 0.4x at 105mm
- Minimum focus distance of .13m (0.43ft) using Center Focus Macro
The RF 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM has an estimated retail price of $399.99 for the lens only, but can also be bundled with the EOS R and RP cameras.
New Camera Cloud Platform: image.canon
By early April 2020, Canon will be launching image.canon, a new cloud platform that will connect select Canon cameras with compatible PCs, smartphones, and external web services. The compatibility will begin with the currently in-development EOS R5. The company envisions this platform enhancing the post-production workflow for Canon photographers, allowing them to streamline image editing, and easily share their images on social media. Users will also enjoy the automatic transfer of images from the the platform to accounts in other services like Google Drive and Google Photos via Google One membership plan, and Adobe Creative Cloud membership plan.
The image.canon cloud platform will provide the following features:
- Direct image uploading via Wi-Fi connectivity
- Long-term storage up to 10 GB after the initial 30-day storage period
- Social Network Sites (SNS) connectivity via the image.canon mobile app
Canon SELPHY Square Printer
Last but not the least, the SELPHY printer becomes even more portable with the introduction of the SELPHY Square printer equipped with dye-sub technology. While crafters and journal makers will especially find this new printer interesting, photographers can also use it to put together an album of their best snaps on the go. The printer pairs with the newly updated SELPHY PHOTO LAYOUT Canon Print app, which instantly connects your device to the SELPHY Square printer when you scan a QR code on the printer.
The new SELPHY Square will be available in black, white, pink, and green, for an estimated retail price of $149.99 A pack of the square format framed sticker type paper is priced at $14.99
