Photographers who are also filmmakers will especially be interested in the latest iteration of the Lomography Petzval lens.
Been eyeing one of the Lomography Petzval lenses especially for portrait photography? Now in their seventh year of developing and refining their takes on the legendary Petzval lens of 1840, the company just dropped the latest addition to their Petzval line up: the Petzval 80.5 MK II SLR Art Lens, designed for both photographers and filmmakers alike. As is customary with their lens offerings, you have the chance to grab it for less on Kickstarter.
According to Lomography, this new iteration of their Petzval lens is designed for modern photographers and videographers alike who want to add an extra touch of creativity and flexibility to their work. With a focal length of 80.5mm and a maximum aperture of f1.9, this latest version will especially appeal to portrait photographers. It also comes compatible with Nikon F and Canon EF DSLRs and a wide range of mirrorless cameras with the use of adaptors, and available in satin, black painted brass, and black anodized aluminum finishes. An Advanced Edition with a dedicated Bokeh Control ring in black anodized aluminum is also included in this release.
The Lomography Petzval 80.5 MK II also boasts of a Dual Aperture System with a 13-blade stopless aperture diaphragm, and secondary Waterhouse Aperture Slot for creating unique Bokeh effects. Thereâs also good news for photographers who double as filmmakers. Taking into consideration the feedback of previous Petzval lens testers, Lomography equipped this new version with a modern helicoid focusing mechanism that allows quick operation and easy integration for filmmaking gear. This, they said, allows for seamless focus and f-stop adjustment while the camera is rolling.
