Here’s your chance to own some original Polaroids and prints by the renowned fashion and celebrity photographer Dewey Nicks.
Attention, print collectors! If you’ve been waiting for the next opportunity to add some prized items to your collection, that chance has finally come. Design platform Autotype is set to host an exclusive online auction featuring original works by renowned fashion and celebrity photographer Dewey Nicks. These include never-before-sold prints and prized Polaroids from his personal archive from the 1980s through the early 2000s. This is a great opportunity to snag one-of-a-kind prints featuring some of the world’s most iconic celebrities.
For those unfamiliar, Nicks is known for his projects with esteemed clients and publications that include Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Bergdorf Goodman, and Ralph Lauren. He is also the photographer behind some of the most iconic images of celebrities like Cindy Crawford, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, and Natalie Portman — all on film. Nicks was also able to archive and preserve hundreds of these photos, many of which made it to his books, Kustom and Polaroids of Women.
According to Nicks, these prints weren’t made to be sold and have been part of his “secret stash.”This means potential buyers are set to own unique pieces from his prized personal collection. “In the analog days, there was no digital, no iPhone, so Polaroids had this certain importance. Sometimes Polaroids and test prints became the most beautiful object of the shoot, maybe the most precious of all.”
Over 50 prints will be included in the online auction which will take place from January 23rd to February 13th. All the photos will also be available for purchase during the launch party at Alchemy Works in Downtown Los Angeles on January 23rd from 6 – 8 PM. Nicks will also be present to talk about his photos, sign copies of his books, and share some stories behind his best-known works.
Apart from getting a prized print or more, buyers will also be delighted to know they will be supporting the career of an up and coming photographer. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Autotype + Dewey Nicks Scholarship, which will provide a worthy photography student financial support, mentorship, and professional resources. The scholarship is part of Autotype’s commitment to invest in the next generation of designers and photographers. Nicks will also join industry icons Leslie Simitch of Trunk Archive and Carol LeFlufy of Eye Forward to select the recipient of the scholarship.
