If you’re still missing a dedicated portrait lens for your Canon EOS R, you should be on the lookout for these two RF lenses freshly dropped by Canon.
Just switched to the Canon EOS R Full Frame mirrorless system and now looking at your choices for portrait lenses? We bring some good news for you. Canon has just expanded its lineup of RF lenses with two new offerings: RF 85mm f1.2 L USM DS and RF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM. The former is pegged as their best performing interchangeable lens yet for the 85mm focal length. The latter promises to make switching the focus between the background and foreground easier without changing the composition, thanks to reduced breathing during focus shifting.
These two new releases are packed with features that are especially geared towards portrait photographers. The RF 85mm f1.2 L USM DS boasts of beautiful bokeh from the bright f1.2 aperture and DS coating, and the highest optical performance that bests even the RF 85mm f1.2 L USM. The minimum focusing distance of 0.85 m will allow photographers to get close to their subjects, while the BR optics ensure reduced chromatic aberration.
Meanwhile, the compact and lightweight RF 70-200mm makes a great choice for those who often shoot portraits on location and other outdoor photography projects. This new lens also boasts of being the first Canon lens to feature an electronic floating focus control to individually drive the two lens groups with two Nano USMs. Other features that portrait photographers will appreciate include a bright f2.8 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization with up to 5 stops of shake correction, and minimum focusing distance of 2.3 ft.
