Sigma’s Potential RF Mount Lenses Deserve Better Canon Cameras

Canon needs to up their camera game. Otherwise, there will be tons of quality RF mount lenses with cameras that can’t make the most of them.

It seems to have taken a while for Sigma to say they will be supporting Canon in their Mirrorless adventure. Usually, Sigma is the first to announce their intent when a new system hits the market, but perhaps they have been waiting to see just how serious Canon is about the new platform. Canon has signaled their intent by releasing some of the most beautiful lenses around, but their camera game sucks. Perhaps Sigma knows something we don’t as they apparently have a roadmap for RF mount lenses in 2020. Let’s talk about this after the break. Continue reading…

Canon Will Be Releasing 6 New Lenses for the EOS RF System This Year

While some may not find the camera to be a very exciting announcement, the new Canon lenses surely are.

In what I personally find to be the more exciting of the two Canon announcements tonight, the company is announcing their latest lineup of lenses that will be coming on their roadmap for this year. I Miss the Canon 5D Mk II: An Ode to Canon’s Most Perfect DSLR

The Canon 5D Mk II was a pretty perfect DSLR that changed the entire industry.

Her name was Dahlia–and she was my Canon 5D Mk II that I adored in so many ways. This is the camera that I really, truly forged my career with as an Editor in Chief and camera tester. It served its need and purpose for a long time and I ultimately miss this camera. Despite how much grief I’ve given Canon over the years, the Canon 5D Mk II is something that will always stand out to me as something that they did right. There were complaints about it based on how the industry was evolving, but the camera was still a fantastic one in the hands of a photographer that knew how to work with its quirks.

Canon or Sony: Which One Is Better for Shooting a Party?

We shot the same party with both Sony and Canon in an informal test. Guess which did better?

Today, there isn’t a single camera system that’s bad or that can’t accomplish a lot. They’re all good. And they can all do a whole lot of various things very well. To each their own for sure. But a while back, we had the opportunity to play with both the Sony and Canon systems for a party. The results? Well, they’re both good. And they both have pluses and minuses over each other.

Video: An Autofocus Test. Canon vs Panasonic vs Sony vs Fujifilm

Which one: Canon, Panasonic, Sony or Fujifilm for Autofocus?

In response to comments we’ve gotten regarding our complaints about Panasonic’s autofocus, we created a video putting four systems against each other. We put them all in the same situation and had them autofocus on a moving subject. In this case, it was a subject that wasn’t moving very fast. The results? Check out our YouTube video to find out. Bokeh for Days! The Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM DS Review

The Canon RF 85mm f1.2 L USM DS lens sports brand new Defocus Smoothing coatings to deliver even creamier bokeh than the original RF 85mm f1.2.

In an interesting move, Canon announced the RF 85mm f1.2 L USM DS less than six months after first introducing the original RF 85mm f1.2. The DS is essentially a Special Edition of the original RF 85mm f1.2 portrait lens. What sets the Canon RF 85mm f1.2 L USM DS apart is the new Defocus Smoothing coating incorporated into the new lens, and the $2,999 price tag. This lens coating is designed to reduce the amount of light passing through the lens gradually from the center towards the periphery. The resulting bokeh appears smoother and more pleasing. We found a lot to love about the original RF 85mm f1.2. Does the additional Defocus Smoothing coating deliver and help improve upon the well regarded original?
