If you’re tough on your gear or work in demanding environments, you might want to check out these new LaCie Rugged SSDs.
In the past, taking hard drives out into the field was always a little scary: they generally do not like to be bumped around. But SSDs have solved this problem. Today, LaCie has announced a new line of SSDs that are ready for drops, water, dust, and just about any abuse you can throw at them. The new LaCie Rugged SSDs come in three flavors; the Rugged SSD Pro, The Rugged SSD, and the Rugged BOSS SSD. Join us after the break for all the details.
The new LaCie Rugged SSDs should help you feel better about keeping your work safe and secure while you’re on the go. All three of them have an IP67 rating for water resistance, a 9.8-foot drop tolerance, and can withstand the force of a two-ton (4,410lbs) car being driven over them. The LaCie Rugged SSDs also come with Seagate’s limited warranty and Rescue Data Recovery Services plan. So far, they don’t sound too shabby at all.
First up is the LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD. The Boss should make life easier for filmmakers and photographers who need a fast, easy, computer-free way to copy, review, and manage content while on the go. This feature-packed SSD has 1TB of storage space and transfer speeds of up to 430MB/s via the USB port or via SD Cards.
The LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD features a built-in status screen which provides real-time updates on transfers, capacity, and battery life too. There is software which makes the SSD compatible with both iOS and Android, and it enables you to view, name, and delete footage or photos using your mobile phone or tablet. The LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD can also be used as a portable power pack for USB devices like phones and mirrorless cameras. The Boss will have a retail price of $449.
The LaCie Rugged SSD is perfect for filmmakers who shoot in 4K and for photographers on the go. This SSD features high-speed transfers up to 950MB/s and Seagate’s Secure, self-encrypting technology. This password protection feature will ensure your work can be kept from prying eyes. The SSD used is a Seagate FireCuda NVMe SSD which will allow users to transfer a vast amount of data over USB 3.1.
The LaCie Rugged SSD comes with up to 2TB of storage, and as mentioned above, it’s rated IP67 for water resistance, has a 9.8-foot drop tolerance, and can withstand being crushed by 4,410lbs. It also comes with Seagate’s five-year limited warranty and Rescue Data Recovery Services plan, as well as a one-month complimentary membership to Adobe’s Creative Cloud All Apps Plan. The LaCie Rugged SSD starts out at $179.99 for the 500GB version. The 1TB SSD will cost $299.99, and $499.99 will get you the 2TB drive.
Last but not least, the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro. This drive is perfect for filmmakers who shoot in 8K and for photographers who shoot with cameras that produce large RAW files, like the Fujifilm GFX 100. This Thunderbolt 3 compatible drive features ridiculously fast transfer speeds of up to 2800MB/s.
In the past, only Thunderbolt 3 devices would work with Thunderbolt 3 computers, but the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro has changed that. It features the latest Thunderbolt 3 controller crammed inside, and it has become the first Thunderbolt 3 SSD to offer USB 3.1 compatibility. It’s also the first Thunderbolt 3 SSD that can be immersed in water up to 3.2 feet of water for 30 minutes. The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro will be available with street prices of $399.99 (1TB) and $699.99 (2TB). For more information about these new LaCie Rugged SSD’s head on over to LaCie’s official website.
