The first ZEISS Full Frame mirrorless camera boasts of first-class image quality, intuitive image editing, and connectivity of a smartphone.
ZEISS unveiled yesterday at the Photokina 2018 its first Full Frame mirrorless camera, the sleek-looking ZEISS ZX1. It features a ZEISS lens and sensor developed in-house at ZEISS, and promises to deliver first-class image quality plus an intuitive operational concept, user experience, and connectivity like that of a smartphone. This camera concept, according to ZEISS, is ” just the first step to opening up a new world of possibilities for ambitious photographers – from taking the shot to editing the image and sharing it on the web.”
The ZEISS ZX1 is equipped with a newly-designed and integrated ZEISS Distagon 35 mm f2 T* lens with autofocus, and a 37.4 Megapixel Full Frame sensor which were both developed in-house at ZEISS. With a fully integrated Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC, photographers can professionally edit their RAW images directly on the camera. The ZX1 also comes with a unique user interface that provides direct access to the most frequently used functions through the 4.3″ multi-touch display.
When the ZEISS ZX1 is connected to the internet, photographers can upload their selection of images directly without transferring them to memory cards or external devices. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB-C, while over-the-air software updates keep the camera updated without the need for a computer connection. The camera also has a 512 GB internal memory — sufficient space for approximately 6,800 RAW files (DNG) or more than 50,000 JPGs.
As for its design, the ZEISS ZX1 features an iconic shape, with an overall form reduced to the important details absolutely necessary to make it an ergonomic camera that is easy to handle. It has a slightly bent screen that separates the live view from the control elements to make camera operation comfortable and straightforward.
Curious about the very first ZEISS Full Frame mirrorless camera? The ZX1 is set to be available at selected dealers in early 2019. The retail price will be announced later in the official market launch. You can register at www.zeiss.com/zx1 now to receive information on the exact availability and prices.
