One of the simplest and most effective compositions we can integrate into our photography are triangle compositions. Some basic ideas:

Triangles are simple and elegant. They add balance to the frame, and also dynamism and interest.

Simple ways to shoot triangles:

  1. Hand gestures and faces: make a simple triangle with someone’s head on top, then their hands on their chest to make a triangle.
  2. Center your subject, then look for two elements to complete the triangle composition.
  3. Put your selfie in the photo to complete the triangle composition.
  4. Fishing technique: look for two parts of the triangle in the frame, and wait for someone to enter the frame!
  5. You will often discover the triangle composition once you’ve gone home and started reviewing your photos. Identify your triangle compositions after the fact!

Can 24mm Prime Lenses be Used for Street Photography Successfully?

Many photographers will tell you that the ideal prime lenses for street photography are 35mm lenses, 40mm lenses, and the trusty 50mm lens. These three lenses are considered to be perfect for street photography because they closely replicate what the human eye sees naturally. Usually you’ll find that anything longer than 50mm just won’t capture enough of a scene to tell a story, while anything wider than 35mm can create images that lack intimacy. 2018 has been an emotionally charged year for me. In a short space of time, I quit a job that made me miserable, reconnected with my Dad after 10 years apart, walked away from an emotionally abusive partner and visited 10 countries in between. Alongside that, I have started two new careers, lived in 3 different cities and got a whole new camera system!  And as we approach the final quarter of the year, it has all caught up with me. In result of this, I have found myself feeling anxious and mildly depressed. As I try to unwrap and make sense of it all, street photography has been the light carrying me through.
