Earlier this week, a user by the name of dr.guru leaked a set of photos of what appears to be the white prototype version of Google’s upcoming Pixel 3 XL on the XDA Developers Forum. While much of the technical information displayed on the device have been redacted to help maintain the source’s anonymity, we can still discern quite a bit of details about Google’s next flagship handheld. One of the first things you’ll notice in the leaked photos is that the Pixel 3 XL will most likely feature a top notch on the front of the device, similar to ones found on Apple’s iPhone X as well as Android handhelds from Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and others. Like the Pixel 2 XL, the front of the Pixel 3 XL also appears to have a bottom chin bezel, where a front facing speaker resides.
But what you probably care about the most is the camera! Or in this case, the cameras.
The leaked photos also show that the Pixel 3 XL will likely have 4GB of RAM as well as 64GB of local storage. For comparison, the Pixel 2 XL also features 4GB of RAM, and is available with either 64GB or 128GB of local storage. We’ll have to wait for the official announcements to see whether or not the Pixel 3 XL will be available in other capacities. But with apps becoming bigger and bigger, in addition to people shooting more photos with larger megapickle cameras, perhaps there could be a 250GB version.
Like its predecessor, the leaked photos show that the Google Pixel 3 XL will feature a single camera on the rear. The current Pixel 2 XL has a 12.2 MP rear camera with a 27mm f1.8 lens, it features both laser autofocus & pixel phase detection autofocus systems, and it is optically and electronically stabilized. Whether or not we’ll see a bump in MP count with the Pixel 3 XL is still up in the air. The rear of the prototype device appears to be made of glass, hinting that the Pixel 3 XL will finally feature wireless charging.
It’s important to remember that everything shown within these leaked photos is subject to design changes. Stay tuned for further details, including release date and pricing information on the Google Pixel 3 XL.
