The MagMod Magbox Is a Fresh New Take on the Softbox

MagMod is looking to change up the lighting game with the MagMod MagBox

People don’t like change, and often times things that could be done better or more efficiently aren’t done because people are comfortable with an inefficient way. MagMod has built their business on reinventing photography lighting accessories with their easy to use system based on magnets, and now they are back with their take on an off-camera lighting setup – The MagMod MagBox. But they didn’t stop with just reinventing the softbox in their image, they have also added the MagShoe and MagRing to fill out the system, making this even more a compelling product.

As with their previous releases, MagMod has taken to Kickstarter to get this product line launched, and if the initial reaction is any indication, then photography community is very on board with what the MagMod team is promising with this new MagBox system. The campaign has barely been live and it has already blown through their $100,000 goal with a full 57 days remaining on the campaign.

So, what are all of those supporters so hyped about? Have a look…

We’ve got to admit, we have been fans of what MagMod has been doing for a while now and this new product is exactly what we like to see. They have taken an old ‘done this way for forever’ product like the softbox and they have infused some new life into it with their own flare. There are only two points we would potentially like to see addressed; a version of their MagRing with just one slot (not everyone has or needs two speedlights); a larger option for this (24” is not the best size for a softbox). Something in the 30-40” range would be perfect. But who knows, maybe the magnets are only effective with the smaller size.

Our thoughts aside, if you want to get more information about the MagBox, or would like to support the Kickstarter itself, you can do that on the MagMod MagBox Kickstarter Campaign page. Right now the incentives are going fast, but you can still get one of these at a discounted rate. So hop on it if you are interested.
