The Fujifilm X70 was a beloved camera that deserves an update
According to some recent reporting across the interwebs, Fujifilm could be gearing up to launch a new compact camera sometimes towards the beginning of July. This must lead many fans of the Fujifilm X70 to get their hopes up that Fujifilm would launch an updated model with better features and functionality. However, also according to the reporting, it doesnât look like this upcoming camera, possibly called the XF10, is a true X70 successor.
The news of this possible upcoming announcement first started to surface about two weeks ago with the discovery of a new camera registration by Fujifilm codenamed FF 180002. This camera is now thought to be officially called the XF10, and it is going to be a compact camera that does not have a selfie screen and â according to Fuji Rumors â will not feature an X-Trans sensor. This will surely disappoint those who were hoping for a true X70 successor because that camera did feature a selfie screen and did utilize Fujifilmâs 16MP X-Trans II sensor like the rest of the X-Series.
For my part, I really liked the X70, and really the only thing I feel like they could have done better was to give it a built-in EVF. Now, given the state of the current Fujifilm lineup, if I had to say what I would want in an âX70 IIâ, it would have to start with that. I would like an EVF, an X-Trans III sensor, and ideally a 28mm lens. I say 28mm because for me that is a nice happy medium between a 23mm and the 35mm, giving you a compact camera that you could use for a wide variety of purposes.
Honestly, if they could make it a 28mm F2, I would be more than thrilled with the prospects of that camera. I could do without the selfie screen, though I wouldnât complain if it had one; I donât use them often, but they are nice to have when I want to take a selfie.
But all hope is not lost just yet for X70 fans just yet, it was also reported today via Nokishita that another codenamed Fujifilm camera FF 180003 was also registered and could be coming soon. Little is known about that camera other than that it features Bluetooth version 4.2. Maybe the XF10 mentioned above is not meant to be the X70 successor, maybe this other camera is the one that we have been waiting for.
Who knows?! But if the reports are accurate at this point, we have about a month to stew before we find out what Fujifilm has up their sleeves, and I, for one, am really interested in what it will be.
