Lots of folks are waiting for the Sony a7s III
Sony has given us the [amazon_textlink asin=’B06ZY7GNKN’ text=’A9′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d112c10e-4fcc-11e8-acb2-01978c55e0e1′], the [amazon_textlink asin=’B076TGDHPT’ text=’A7R III’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d73c5c53-4fcc-11e8-a437-851952e61f51′], and the [amazon_textlink asin=’B07B43WPVK’ text=’A7 III’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ddae4b39-4fcc-11e8-a04f-0d8d7c0678a6′], so it is only logical that attention has now turned to the A7S lineup. There has been some reporting that Sony could announce the A7S III as soon as mid-late May (in a few weeks). This would make sense: all of the other cameras are out now and have been for some time. So, just taking that at face value for now, what can we even expect to see from the A7S III (or more accurately, what do we want to see)?
According to the latest reporting over on Sony Alpha Rumors (SAR), Sony is expected to make some announcements here in mid to late May and one of the potential products they are thinking could be announced is the A7S III. In terms of what the specs of the camera may be, the currently accepted line of thought is that the A7S III will feature a new stacked image sensor with integral memory. It will also, according to Youtuber Dave Dugdale (who spoke to a Sony rep), feature the same new color science that has been featured in Sonyâs latest video cameras like the FS5 Mark II.
But that is more or less all of the reporting that has come out in regards to the A7S III in terms of specifics. There are a lot of predictions and what the camera may or may not feature. Our good friend Steve Huff has an excellent video (see below) in which he talks about some of his predictions about what to expect in the A7S III.
We have also put our hat in the ring, with this post about the A7S III and what we would like to see. Go check it out, but to quickly summarize, we would love for the A7S III to feature a new 16MP sensor. In our opinion 12MP is just too little in this day and age, and while 16MP is not a huge step up it should be good enough. Additionally, we would like to see the PlayMemories app store come back (though we arenât holding our breath).
Regardless, the A7S III, however it comes to us, is sure to catch the attention of low light fanatics and video-centric hybrid shooters. But honestly, the [amazon_textlink asin=’B07B43WPVK’ text=’A7 III’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’e41b587a-4fcc-11e8-a7cc-5fbcae8b3e05′] is a really great option right now as it is, so the A7S III will have to be something fairly special for people to want to choose it over the A7 III. It will be interesting to see how that all pans out once Sony does finally announce the A7S III.
