You need more storage and you need it to be safe from disk failures according to Drobo.
Drobo is no doubt a brand you have heard about, being one of the first to really promote and capitalize on the need for creative professionals to have expandable storage safe from drive failures. Today, Drobo has launched new Gold and Platinum versions of their best selling 5D3 and 5N2 products that give users several special perks beyond the safety of their data.
The Drobo 5D3 is based on the classic Drobo idea of desktop-attached storage that is fast, reliable, and secure. It features two Thunderbolt 3 ports, and one USB 3.0 type C port, a 1.6Ghx quad-core processor, up to 64TB of storage space, 5 drive bays, and incredible read/write speeds of up to 800MB/s read and 346MB/s writes, depending on the drives you populate them with.
But the 5D3 and 5N2 are nothing new, they have been around for a while. What is new are these Gold and Platinum editions which provide some nice perks for people who purchase one. According to the Drobo press release the new Gold edition of the 5D3 and 5N2 will feature:
- 5 years of Drobo Care
- 24×7 Free Phone Support
- Drobo Hardware Replacement
- Migration Assistance
- 128GB mSATA SSD for the accelerator bay which boosts performance on the unit up to 30% for the most frequently accessed files.
The Platinum Edition of the 5D3 and 5N2 will feature everything noted in the Gold Edition above, but with one really huge addition: a five year drive recover service plan with DriveSavers. The add-on provides cover in case of mechanical, water, fire, and file corruption on failed disks. If you have ever had disk failures happen then you know how spendy this can be to fix, so having five years of coverage is a huge perk.
However, as you may have guessed, neither of these two products will come cheap in their Gold or Platinum plan configurations. The Drobo 5D3 Gold Edition will run at $949 while the Platinum version will run you $1,149. The Drobo 5N2 Gold Edition will run at $749, with the Platinum edition coming in at $949. All four units are available starting today at Drobo’s website and across the web with Drobo partnered retailers.
