In an announcement that I was really hoping would come sooner rather than later, Sony is today confirming that uncompressed RAW shooting abilities are coming to the Sony A7 Mk II. That means that it joins the Sony A7s Mk II and the Sony A7r Mk II in offering the feature. (reviews are published at the according links.)
That’s not all Sony is giving, the Sony A7 Mk II is also going to offer fully functioning phase detection with all Sony A mount and Sony E mount lenses. According to the press release:
“The firmware update activates the 117-point focal plane phase detection AF sensor on the α7 II for lenses beyond just the native Sony FE lenses. This includes Sony’s extensive collection of A-mount lenses, which can be utilized along with the LA-EA3 mount adapter.”
The free firmware update will come on November 18th. I’m sure Sony A7 Mk II owners will be incredibly happy.
