This is the sixth annual World Photo Day. The celebration got its start with an Australian photographer name Korske Ara. The date August 19 was based on the French government’s purchasing of the patent for Louis Daguerre’s photographic process, the Daguerrotype. You could argue that every day is World Photo Day, given how many photos are taken and put online daily, but a proper acknowledgement of the craft is a fine thing.
With that in mind, we’d love to see your best photo. Go out today, take some photographs and share the best one on Instagram with the hashtag #wpdphoblographer for a chance to be featured in a post on our site. We’ll go through the submissions and pick our favorite 12 images to show here. By tagging with that hashtag, you agree to have your photo featured, and you retain all rights to it.
