There are a couple of things wrong with this image above. Other than the photo clearly being squished and miscalled by We Love Dates, the image was also picked up for Total Sorority Move’s article titled “Reasons He’s Not Texting You.” Fail! That is clearly a rotary phone and it will never show a text so quit while you’re ahead girlfriend.
Poor juxtaposition aside, this is one of those clear examples of why it’s important to pick the right image for the story. You wouldn’t post the image of a man standing in ankle deep water with a headline like “colossal flooding hits the neighborhood.” A badly chosen image can be just as glaringly egregious as a typo. Ultimately picking the wrong photo will turn your article into a complete laughing stock. And for god sakes take a couple seconds out of your day to crop the image to size.
Choosing good and appropriate images for a story is the job of a photo editor; and it’s incredibly important.
