Edit: we got an email from Orbotix. It is totally an April Fool’s Joke
This doesn’t seem like an April Fool’s Joke to us, but if it is then it’s a damned good one.
We received an email this morning for the Selfiebot by Orbotix. And essentially what it is is a small drone that takes selfies of you and transmits the images to your phone. In fact, it looks a little bit like a robot from the game Portal. The demonstration video for the product shows folks in their homes and in some of their favorite moments having a photo taken of them by the robot. Some folks are still in bed, some are at the gym, some are wandering a carnival in a lonely way with an ice cream cone. But they’re all showing off moments when folks do selfies.
And in every moment, the little drone flies around to take photos of the person. It even seems to be detecting emotions and great moments. If the technology is really that good, then this is truly something revolutionary. The drone seems to even have a built in flash and be able to stand up well to winds despite having a small propeller to make it into a hovercraft.
There is no official word on the camera specs or just how long the battery life will be considering that it is a connected product and hovering off the ground, but specs and details may be coming soon.
In the mean time, enjoy the product video after the jump.
