Gpixel can lay claim to having the biggest 150 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor around. The Chinese imaging company announced the new sensor it created in partnership with microchip manufacturer TowerJazz at the Image Sensors 2014 show. Dubbed the GMAX3005, the sensor is a monochromatic CMOS image sensor designed for medical, industrial, and scientific use so you sadly wonât be seeing this installed on the next DSLR camera.
Along with the insane image resolution, the GMAX3005 is capable of running at ten frames a second at full frame. The sensor was designed for highly sensitive work and as such it has a noise level of less than 4e- and a dynamic range of 75.4dB. The 167.6mm x 30.1mm (6.59 x 1.1â) sensor also consumes less than 2.5W when shooting in full resolution. Gpixel announced the GMAX3005 CMOS sensor will be available later this year.
