Pictured above is Canon’s VIXIA Mini X Compact Camcorder which will allow users to record video hands-free. The Mini X sports a 12MP CMOS sensor and an f2.8 fisheye lens, which will produce 160-degree MP4 movies, 170-degree stills, and 150-degree AVCHD movies. The camcorder has two shooting modes – wide and close up – and the Electronic Image Stabilization builtin will help safeguard against any potential shake. The built-in stand has 60 degrees of adjustability, and the tripod thread underneath expands its abilities.
The Mini X also offers Fast and Slow motion modes, which give you greater flexibility in movie making. There’s also a Mirror Image Recording/Playback feature which allows you to view the scene in real-time and make adjustments as it’s happening.
The Mini X also comes with built-in Wi-Fi, which enables quick sharing to your PC, YouTube, Facebook and the like. You can also control the Mini X from your Android or iOS device via the Canon CameraAccess app. Canon also offers a Pan Table accessory which will facilitate shooting from remote locations.
The Mini X is expected to be released in March 2014 for $349.99. The Pan Table accessory will be available in March for $99.
HF R-Series
Canon is releasing three cameras in the HF R-Series: the R500, R50 and R52. All three camcorders have a 3.28MP Full HD CMOS Sensor, HD video in 1920×1080, and a 3 inch capacitive touch LCD. They also feature 57x optical zoom, Intelligent IS (which optimizes settings based on shooting conditions), seven Cinema Look Filter effects (which can be added during or after recording), and an Audio Scene Select mode which optimizes settings for crisp audio.
The camcorders also come with what’s called Advanced Baby Mode. This will help parents record their baby’s daily growth. Footage is saved to a special album, and up to three separate babies can be recorded in this mode.
HF R52
In addition to what’s described above, the HF R52 comes with built-in Wi-Fi for easy sharing of footage and remote control via the Canon CameraAccess app for iOS and Android devices. The camcorder also has 32GB of internal storage, and you also have the option to save footage to an SD card. The VIXIA HF R52 is expected to be released in March 2014 for $449.99.
HF R50
The HF R50 shares the built-in Wi-Fi capability with the HF R52, but it comes with 8GB of internal storage as opposed to 32GB. You still have the option to save footage to an SD card. The HF R50 is expected to released in March 2014 for $399.99.
HF R500
The HF R500 is the most affordable of new lineup. It does not have the internal built-in Wi-Fi and internal storage capabilities that the other two camcorders do, but it has the same technical specifications to produce footage that is just as superb as its stronger siblings. The HF R500 is expected to be released in March 2014 for $299.99
