The camera that won our Editor’s Choice rating this year now has a brand new firmware update. However, they seem to be very minor improvements, such as better stabilization in children’s mode. One of the bigger features though is improved AF operation as well as improve bulb image quality.
In many ways, this camera is perfect–but we wonder how it will compete with competition from Sony with the A7 not being much more expensive than the EM1.
Full firmware details are after the jump. Be sure to also check out our EM1 review.
1) Supports compensation for chromatic aberration when using the E-M1 and Panasonic’s LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. (H-FS14140) together.
2) Enhanced stabilization of shooting in the Sports mode and Children mode of the SCN mode or C-AF.
3) Improved live bulb image quality while noise reduction is on.
4) Improved AF operation.
New firmware has also been released for the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens which offers the following improvements:
1) Correction of occasional unstable shooting after using EX. Tele Conv. when used in combination with a Panasonic camera.
In addition, new firmware for the STYLUS XZ-2 offers the following:
1) Improved AF performance when Single Target is selected in low light.
There are two options for updating the firmware:
1) Simply launch the included Olympus camera software and connect the camera via USB cable to an internet connected computer. Choose the Update function from the Camera menu in the software to apply available updates for camera bodies, lenses and accessories.
2) Download the software update from the following link:

With each method, users can choose to display information related to what the update will apply, prior to performing the update.
