Though many of us snub our noses at point and shoots these days, that doesn’t mean that camera manufacturers won’t try to still compete in the category. Olympus today is announcing their new Stylus 1 camera–a small sensor camera with OMD EM5 styling but with a small sensor and a fixed f2.8 long zoom. The camera sports a 1/1.7″ 12MP CMOS sensor, a 28-300mm f2.8 lens, 1.44 million dot EVF, and the tech specs say that the camera shoots RAW images but the version we played with didn’t seem to. Plus it has a 3 inch LCD screen, Live Bulb mode, Wifi, and a special lens cap that can also totally cover and protect the lens.
Then there is a telephoto converter adapter to give the user even more reach.
No official word on pricing or release date yet, but we can surely expect it around the holiday season. Just don’t take it out in the snow, there is no weather sealing.
