This is What the Olympus OMD EM1 Looks Like With Its Guts Spilled

While we already firmly believe that the Olympus OMD EM1 is quite tough as nails, the folks at ePhotoZine are currently featuring some teardown images of what the camera looks like before it is assembled. And we can already see lots of gaskets to keep the camera weather sealed. And for the most part, the camera also looks as if it really isn’t comprised of lots of parts–but then again that motherboard units probably has loads to it by itself.

Two more photos are after the jump–and they show off the magnesium alloy body. We’re currently in the middle of reviewing the camera ourselves, and we’re so far very impressed.

This post is being written around Photokina 2018 and is in regards to a question that’s been quietly popping up amongst press and a number of other folks in the industry: what’s going to happen to Olympus. They’re a company that has been super quiet this year. There have been very few product announcements, their last major innovation was at last Photokina despite releasing some very nice lenses, and they seem to be the company who is sort of left in the dust. What do I mean by this? Well, look at Panasonic. They’re not giving up on Micro Four Thirds; the format in and of itself still has some merit despite what folks may moan about. But Panasonic’s cooperation with Leica and Sigma on the L mount combined with some serious competition for Sony is stealing the show in many ways.

APS-C based cameras are perfect for these two genres of photography thanks to their crop factors. Canon’s bodies offer a 1.6x crop, Nikon bodies 1.5x, Sony crop bodies have a magnification of 1.5x, Fuji crop sensors have a 1,5x crop and Micro Four Thirds system have a crop of 2x. What does this mean? Basically any lens you use on your camera will have its focal rage magnified.
