We love Kickstarter. Well, everybody does. It’s a place where new awesomeness sprouts on a daily basis. The latest awesomeness is called “Poppy” and aims at making your iPhone a 3D camera. “Whaaaa…?” you might be asking at this point. But in fact the product is quite simple. Poppy uses mirrors to capture two stereographic images using the iPhone’s camera. When seen through the viewfinder, Poppy’s lenses combine the two video streams into a single 3D video. But not only does it enable you to record 3D video–you can also use it to view 3D video, e.g. via YouTube. While we admit that it does make your iPhone slightly more bulky, we think this might just be one of the coolest iPhone gadgets ever conceived.
Poppy’s Kickstarter campaign will be running until July 26th and seeks to acquire a total of US-$ 40k, of which more than US-$ 10k have been pledged for already. A pledge of US-$ 39 will already get you a final production Poppy. So head over to their Kickstarter page and back them for their awesome idea! Because seriously, who can claim to have a 3D capable iPhone?
