So here’s the story: you’re in pubic and standing on a public street taking photos of a slaughterhouse from a good distance away. You’re told to stop, but you fight back with the fact that you’re well within your rights. Then the cops come, and you get charged. According to Vice, that is what happened to Amy Meyer in Utah. Her charges: she is in clear violation of the Ag-Gag bill. These bills make undercover filming of farms and other agricultural areas illegal.
Now if Meyer is is clear sight and in public, we’re not really sure that she can be charged. However, the owner of the slaughterhouse is a sponsor of the bill as is the mayor of the town. Vice’s story hints that there is a bit of a political coverup in the mix: but in all honesty, what is our world coming to?
