Isn’t this the dream of every stalker? Not only to get close to the person you’re obsessed with, but also to record everything they do? Don’t get us wrong. We don’t want to encourage immoral or even unlawful behaviour. In fact, we strongly condemn it. As we are positive does Sony. But, you may ask, if these 12x magnification, 20MP, Full HD binoculars aren’t about stalking, then what are they about? Well, wildlife observation would be an option. Or just looking at really, really far away stuff and taking pictures and videos of it to post on facebook and YouTube.
Sony’s DEV-50 binoculars sport 12x maginification (25x with digital zoom) combined with an Exmor R HD sensor capable of 20.4 mp stills and 1080/50/60p Full HD video recording. Being binoculars, they also offer 3D recording via the two built-in 1/3.91″ CMOS sensors, in which case the zoom range is reduced to 6x. They also sport a stereo mic, external mic input, headphone jack, HDMI out as well as a microUSB port. Optical SteadyShot as well as face detection and an Intelligent Auto shooting mode complement their photographic capabilities.
At the time of writing, we have no further information on release date and retail price, but considering that the currently available yet lower-spec’ed DEV-5 binoculars already set you back about US-$ 1.5k, prepare for a similar if not even higher price once the DEV-50 hits the market.
If that’s too much dough for your taste (pun intended), but you’d really like to take close up shots of mating coots, take a look at SLR Magic’s Micro Four Thirds-mountable 12-36×50 ED Straight Spotting Scope which comes in at considerably less.
