Editor’s Updates after the jump

BlackMagic has been relatively quiet for a while since solving the problems with their sensors in order to get cameras out, but at NAB 2013 they’ve just announced a whole new camera. This one has an active Micro Four Thirds mount (meaning it can work with electronically coupled lenses), is about the size of a point and shoot, has 13 stops of dynamic range, a 1080HD sensor (super 16mm size), built in SD card recording (which is extremely nice) and has a high res touch screen.

Oh, and it’s going for just under $1,000. Panasonic’s GH3 goes for $1,499 and has a weather sealed body as well as an EVF. However, it doesn’t shoot RAW video the way this will and the sensor isn’t nearly as good.

The interwebs have no further news yet on release date or anything else. If you’re interested in purchasing this camera though, we recommended these lenses for the M43 mount BMCC a while back.

Editor’s Update: We just found out via CameraTown that they’re also announcing a 4K production camera. Besides shooting 4K video, it will also have a Super 35mm sensor–which is approximately APS-C sized. Other features are Built-in SSD, Touch screen LCD, ProRes video recoding, CinemaDNG RAW recording, Thunderbolt, and a Canon EF compatible Mount – all for just under $4,000. The new sensor size should solve the previous problems with the first BMCC being such a small sensor and not being able to get any wide shots due to the available focal lengths.
