A new camera has been introduced for our ‘green’ minded friends out there. It has the ability to be powered mechanically or by the sun. Superheadz introduced their new device called “Sun & Cloud” camera promising that it would be the first independently powered camera, taking the “low battery” out of the equation.
The “Sun & Cloud” has a boxy design, almost similar to the old roliflex cameras. Instead of a top down view, though, there is an LED screen on the back of the camera. The camera can be powered by using the crank, which hides away when not in use. The camera can also charge USB devices as well. The scary thing–the camera can be mistaken for a pencil sharpener. I mean, look at it.
If, however, you find yourself both without sufficient sunlight and with no time or strength to crank the box, then there is USB charging as a third power option. Its physical dimensions are 6 x 6 x 8 inches, and it weighs 200 grams. It has a LED flash in the front as well as the typical user interface and function buttons.
Performance specifications on this camera are listed as follows:
3-megapixel CMOS sensor
ISO range 100 to 800
Photo and Video recording (AVI files with 30fps or 8fps frame rates)
3 still photo modes: normal range of 150cm; portrait range of 60-150cm; macro range of 25-35cm
15 built-in filters

You can purchase this camera for about $199 from AC Gears or directly from the Superheadz website (which is in Japanese).
