Sony Releases Alpha Series and NEX-7 Firmware Update

At last, Sony outs the firmware updates for the A77 and NEX-7. They’re definitely something worth taking a look at as they involve some useful new capabilities as well as adding a number of new compatible lenses to your Sony arsenal.

NEX-7 updates include: 

  • Addition of capability to enable or disable the MOVIE button
  • Addition of exposure settings of bracket shooting (three frames /1.0EV,2.0EV, 3.0EV)
  • Improvement of response for showing auto review image.
  • Improvement of image quality when using a wide angle lens
  • Improvement of indication when setting “Flexible Spot”.
E-mount Lens updates include:
  • Hybrid AF E-mount capabilities with the NEX-5R/NEX-6. Lenses include 0SEL1855, SEL55210, SEL18200 and SEL24F18Z.

A77, A65, A57, and A37  updates include: 

  • Addition of capability to enable or disable MOVIE button
  • Expanded the number of automatic compensation compliant lenses: SAL30M28ïĵŒSAL50F14ïĵŒSAL2470ZïĵŒSAL2875ïĵŒSAL70400GïĵŒSAL70200GïĵŒSAL35F14GïĵŒSAL1635Z

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
