Sony today announces the latest additions to their NEX mirrorless system: the NEX-6 camera body, the SEL 10-18mm f4 lens, the SEL 35mm f1.8 lens and the SEL PZ 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 lens. While the NEX-6, as its name suggests, occupies the slot between the medium-level NEX-5R and higher-end NEX-7 models, the SEL 10-18mm f4 is the first super wide angle zoom lens to be introduced to the NEX system, with a focal length of 15-27mm equivalent to 35mm full-frame. The SEL 35mm f1.8 with its 52.5mm-equivalent focal length takes the place of a fast normal lens in the NEX system, and finally the new 16-50mm power zoom lens is an almost pancake lens sized new kit zoom, with a focal length of 24-75mm-equivalent.
The NEX-6 is exactly what it claims to be — an intermediate model betweed the medium-level NEX-5R and the higher-end NEX-7. While taking over the basic interior and exterior of the NEX-5R, including the new 16.1 megapixel Exmor APS HD sensor, it features the same high-res built-in electronic viewfinder of the NEX-7. What sets the NEX-6 apart from both models is the new conventional mode dial, which occupies the same spot as the control dial(s) in the NEX-5R and NEX-7.
