500PX iOS App Gets Pulled From App Store Because Apple Doesn’t Like Boobs

Not long ago, the new 500PX iOS app was announced and was downloaded like mad. But the company’s has been temporarily pulled  from the iOS store. Why? In a short chronology that was tracked by the Verge, apparently they submitted a new version for review that contained bug fixes. But then it apparently became too easy to search for nude photos.

Really Apple? Okay, maybe the entire Popular and most of the Editor’s Choice is flooded with nudes, but it’s all about art though. It’s not pornography. At the time of writing this article, my 500PX iPad app still works fine and I can peruse all the content I want; and nudes are included.

Thankfully, freedom of expression and toplessness is still legal on Android devices.

    That’s ridiculous. When are they going to pull the Safari app? What about the YouTube app? Flickr? I can see all *kinds* of nudity on Flickr via the Flickr app, if I wanted. But really, Safari is the gateway. Apple needs to pull Safari if it *really* wants to censor what people can see and read.

    Ridiculous.

    Don’t delete the app.. it still works…
    I’d say, don’t update it either. yet…..

    “it’s all about art though. It’s not pornography.” No, Chris. Most of it, yes. All? Definitely not.

    500px is full of utterly trashy nudes. And the community sure supports it. Just note how quickly a nude photo gets “F+V!!!!” when the lack of “artistry” is appalling. Personally, I’m sick of 500px in that regard. You’ve got to admit that a lot of it’s just the nude factor that people love.

    This by no means is in support of Apple’s decision, ’cause I still love 500px for other reasons. But can’t really hate them for wanting to protect kids from easy non-artistic nudes, ’cause 500px is sure full of them.

      and why on earth should nudity be beautified with artistry before shown? is nudity inherently bad and needs polishing before exercising one’s freedom of speech? and what’s wrong with only loving the nude factor?

        Nudity = bad, filthy
        Violence = good, entertainment

        nudity can look super trashy, when photographers photograph bar stars in an ‘glamour more porn/hustler type manner. So the photos are already made to look like something in a Hustler/ Playboy manner … Its not just nudes that can be this way, many ‘glamour’ shots in the popular section are bar girls overly photoshoped on their first photoshoot. It brings the community down. However, i’ve never seen ANYTHING trashy in editors choice ( My photo that was chosen is semi provocative ) But theres tons of trash in popular.

        I come to 500px for art and so do most users. If you want a hustler/playboy wannabe go to the other MILLIONS of options on the web, it doesnt have to be apart of that community.

      Well, I would much rather them implement parental controls and have apps like 500px available only to 18 and up, rather than just removing the whole thing
