Rigu Is a Quirky Camera Store For Quirky People Who Like Quirky Things: Offers Phoblographer Readers 10% Discount

by Chris Gampat on 05/22/2012

When new startups pop up, I get excited. Why? Because it’s a damn good sign that someone else is trying to make the economy not suck. Rigu is such a creature. Born out of the idea that camera bags and the like shouldn’t be boring, Rigu appeals to photogs that want to have a little bit of flair or want something totally different than everyone else. Based in Northern England, they’re kind of like Photojojo with a British accent.

Now here’s the part you care about: make a purchase there and use the code PHOBLOG10 and you’ll receive a 10% discount off on anything. I’m not going to try to tell you that’s a sweet deal because I don’t do those kind of things, but I can tell you HHHNNNNFFFFFFFGGGGHHHHHH I WANT BLUE CANVAS BAG NAOO!!!!!!! GGGAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Let us know your thoughts.

    You want my thoughts?

Seems really odd that a photography blog would forgo traditional photographer ethics and promote a site that sells knock-off merchandise like the Billingham Hadley bags?  Maybe I am a old dinosaur, having previously been a working pro for over 40 years, but there was a time that we cared as much about other people’s intellectual property, trademarks, patents and copyrights as much as we cared about our own. But I suppose times are changing.

I wonder if that Andrew person ever wonders why businesses in the UK are having such hard times?

To be fair, it looks more like a combo of the Hadley and the ONA Street Messenger sitting right next to me as I type this. That design is famous. Also, the Hadleys have more pockets inside for a laptop.

Billingham is located in the UK BTW.

And why promote it? Well, why promote eBay or Amazon? The same things are said about Yongnuo products, but they work damn well and are used by many.

Hi Keith, I know there’s no reason for you to believe this (as it’s the obvious thing someone would say to defend themselves), but I’ve honestly never heard the words ‘Billingham Hadley’ before, I thought I was just selling a canvas camera bag since that was how it was described by the supplier (I hold small amounts of stock but hope to manufacture items myself one day), which makes me look pretty ignorant of the photo world, unfortunately.

I’ve looked them up and there definitely are similarities, I will have to ponder this as I don’t want to be known as someone that sells knock-offs, so thank you for bringing it to my attention.
