When Fujifilm first announced their 27mm f2.8 pancake lens, lots of photographers probably got excited because it was the first pancake lens for the system and the company’s rapidly growing additions. But many photographers also asked for something like the 23mm f2 on the X100s. And while this lens is longer and slower, it may well end up glued to the camera of a particular type of photographer. It exhibits high image quality and excellent build quality.

But it isn’t perfect.

Editor’s Note: In our phone call meeting with Fujifilm, the company stated that the focusing will not be as fast as the XE-1’s.

New winds are pushing Fujifilm’s sails forward. The company has just announced the X-M1, the third installment in the very popular X-series of cameras. The X-M1 shares the same 16.3 MP APS-C X-Trans censor with the X-Pro 1 and X-E1, but unlike the other two, it comes with a newly designed Fujinon XC16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS zoom lens. The X-M1 is a compact interchangeable lens camera that packs a lot of punch, and given Fujifilm’s penchant for design, it is an attractive compact companion. The X-M1 will be available in black and silver for $699.95 (body only) in July and in brown for the same price in August. With the Fujinon XC16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS lens, it will be $799.95.

On the glass spectrum, Fujifilm has also announced the new Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 lens. It is compatible with all X-series cameras, including the brand new X-M1. At 2.75 oz, it is an extremely lightweight lens that will be a go-to option for many who want a light kit. With 7 aperture blades and a shallow depth of field, the lens will surely deliver some great results, and it will definitely be a hit with the street photography crowd. It will be available in July for $449.95.

Full Specs and photos are after the jump.

Fujifilm XE-1 and X Pro 1 Get New Firmware; Boost New Zoom Performance

Chris Gampat The Phoblographer Fujifilm X Pro 1 35mm f1.4 X Series lens review (6 of 7)ISO 1600

If you’re an X Pro 1 or XE-1 user, get ready to go through the process of downloading firmware onto your SD card and inserting it into the camera. The latest piece of firmware from Fujifilm is offering extra performance enhancements with the new XF55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS. This new lens is the new telephoto zoom for the system, though to be honest we’re not too sure how many people will be purchasing it as it seems like an extremely consumer-ish focal length range. Most X camera users seem to reach for higher fruit–or at least that is the experience that we often see.

The firmware downloads are available at the according links in the previous paragraph.

Editor’s Note: It seems that in addition to improving the AF speed with the new 55-200mm zoom, speed with other lenses has also improved. Between 2.03 and 2.04 with the latest firmware for the XF 35mm F1.4 I noticed an improvement with overall speed in focusing, as well as accuracy within low light. Fuji’s Press Release regarding the firmware hinted there would be an improvement in other lenses, though it is possible we will see further improvement with yet another firmware upgrade later this summer (Source: DPReview)
