Medium Format Cameras Have a Romance But Not in Their Photos

I’ve often written about how modern photography has lost its romance. It’s one of the many reasons why the site’s primary readers (Millenials and Gen Z) love film cameras and care about the ergonomics of cameras. And of any cameras available on the market, this is seen with medium format cameras. Every full-frame camera more or less feels like a variant of another camera. Of course, there are exceptions, but they all follow a very safe and marketable design. But if you dive into the film world, things get different. And it’s evident that the romance of modern photography is gone.

We’ve Updated Our Nikon 50mm F1.8 S Lens Review. The Lens Improved!

Nikon’s 50mm f1.8 S lens is probably the sharpest lens they’ve manufactured. Its optical quality far exceeds that of any F-mount lens ever made. During our earlier reviews, its AF speed and accuracy weren’t up to competitor levels. Many users reported frustration with its AF accuracy levels, especially when using Eye-AF. Nikon has released updates to existing Z body firmware and released new dual-processor bodies (Z6 II and Z7 II). In our latest tests, the AF accuracy and speed are much improved. There has also been an update to the lens firmware since our last review. It’s also got a great price to boot!

If there is anything that’s true about the Nikon Z mount system, it’s that it has truly improved. Nikon has worked to release as many lenses as possible in a short time. They’ve also put out a bunch of firmware updates and made new cameras. Those cameras work very well now. And one of our favorite lenses, the Nikon 35mm f1.8 S, has also changed. This lens hasn’t had the firmware updated, but the cameras have improved so much that we’ve felt it necessary to update our review. So how is it?
