Fujifilm has had a macro lens from the start of the X series system, but it’s not one that folks often speak about very much despite its good performance. However, with the company’s recent partnership with Zeiss they now have the 50mm f2.8 Touit offering. We initially got the play with the lens last year then had even more playtime with a production version just recently.

This lens is characterized by an all metal build with rubber for the focusing ring and aperture ring. Zeiss’s design choice has to do with what their DSLR customers said about manually focusing the lenses in frigid weather–focusing is too unpleasant to the touch. As rubber isn’t a conductor (or very much of one for the intended purpose) the company decided that this was the best choice.

But does the third party offering have the image quality to be on par to the reputation that Fujifilm has built?

First Impressions: Zeiss Touit 50mm f2.8 Macro (Sony NEX)

Felix Esser The Phoblographer Zeiss Touit 50mm f2.8 Macro First Impressions

Earlier this year, Zeiss anounced that a Touit 50mm f2.8 Macro lens for APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras was in the making. Finally, at the Photo Plus Expo 2013 in New York, we had the chance to take a closer look at it. Unfortunately, the lens is still not 100% final, so we weren’t allowed to take any pictures with it yet. We were able to fondle it a bit, and we can already say that it looks and feels absolutely great. And if Zeiss is keeping the same level of quality as we’ve come to know from their other Touit offerings, the 50mm f2.8 is going to be one serious contender on the mirrorless lens market.

Zeiss Launches Their New Touit Mirrorless Camera Lenses: New 50 Macro on the Way

Touit 1.8-32 on Sony NEX and Fujifilm X

The other day, Zeiss explained why they named their new lens lineup the Touit brand. And today, they’re announcing that the 12mm f2.8 and 32mm f1.8 optics will officially be launched. We played with the lenses a while ago at Photokina, and we’re also itching to get them in for review. The company will be coming to NYC soon for an official press event where we’ll get to fondle zee new glass.

But wait: there’s more! The company also announced that a 50mm f2.8 Macro lens will be coming soon too before the end of the year! It seems like Zeiss is really trying to get into the mirrorless camera game now, and honestly they belong there.

Tech Specs are after the jump.

Sigma Announces New DP3 with 50mm f2.8 Lens with 75mm Equivalent Field of View

Chris Gampat The Phoblographer Sigma DP3 CES 2013 (1 of 1)ISO 501-125 sec at f - 16

CES 2013 is bringing some interesting new products as well as some that make us yawn. And while Sigma is doing the whole point and shoot bandwagon thing, they’re creating yet another addition to their DP line. The new DP3 is a addition to the lineup that sports a fixed 50mm f2.8 lens. Wait, what?! Yes; a camera with a 75mm field of view, 7fps shooting, and what the company claims to be an advanced user interface in front of that APS-C sized sensor.

Sigma states that this completes the trio with the DP1 having a 19mm (28mm field of view), DP2 having 30mm (45mm field of view) and the DP3 having a 50mm (75mm) field of view: suggesting that they recommend that you to purchase all three cameras.

But that’s not all, hit the jump for more.
