Many traditional DSLR wedding photographers often find themselves questioning the ability of Fujifilm cameras (well, mirrorless cameras in general really when it comes to their ability to handle the ever-changing circumstances of a wedding). Maybe some have been burned by trying to jump from a DSLR to mirrorless in the past, or maybe they have just heard shop talk about how mirrorless cameras just can’t cut it.
Well, ladies and gentlefolk, today we have for you some pretty convincing (in my opinion) proof that a Fujifilm X-Pro2 is not only able to keep up at a wedding, but really excel at it as well. The following video is an entire wedding (shot by Kevin Mullins), some 4,000 images, arranged into a great visual representation of what the Fujifilm system is capable of over the course of a wedding. These images are unedited (you will notice exposure and WB shifts throughout the video).
Anyone considering a move to Fujifilm for their wedding or event photography should take a look at this. You can see where the camera failed, where it excelled, and most importantly you can see how it performed overall throughout the day (across three batteries and various conditions).
“I actually thought long and hard about doing this in the first place, and even longer about publishing it, but I think, by and large, it gives a pretty good indication of how reactionary the Fuji X-Pro2 can be for people who shoot in a documentary/reportage style,” Mullins says of the video. And we tend to agree with him.
It is rare for photographers to lift the veil on their work so openly and publicly, but we are thankful that Mullins got the courage to do so here. Next time you hear someone talking about how Fujifilm can’t handle professional use, or can’t cut it for a wedding, show them this.
