“I am a French photographer living in London, and my work focuses on historic architecture & heritage interiors,” says photographer Tamara Sredojevic about her work in an email pitch. According to her, she likes to work with empty buildings. “I like to give myself (and viewers) a chance to look at beautiful places without the mass of tourists holding selfie sticks.” She continues to state that it’s the only way you can fully immerse yourself into what was once possibly the house of a historical figure.
Tamara has been traveling for over a year taking these photos in both the US and Europe. Despite not being a professional photographer, Tamara’s work really shows us that you don’t need to be in order to create compelling images.
Here’s some more about Tamara and what she had to say about herself.:
I have a background in film so I am mostly inspired by cinematographers. I really love British cinema, and the work of D.o.P Danny Cohen (The Danish Girl, The King’s Speech, Room). When I work on a picture, I like to transform the overall aspect and give it a cinematic aspect. Even in an empty space, having the right colours and lighting enables me to imagine characters moving around in costumes.
After working in film for five years, I moved to the UK where I took an office job in higher education. With a full-time job, I had no time for film “on the side”. But I bought a Sony A7R and started taking pictures in my free time and grew a strong interest for historic architecture & interiors. I began visiting as many palaces and castles in the UK, then started to travel in Italy, Spain, the US…
Now, the idea is to connect with a wider network and raise awareness for the beauty of our heritage, which is the only time-travel we can do. That’s how I like to see it.
More of her work is after the jump.
