A house; a series of walls, an assortment of furniture, food, and clothing, maybe a yard. Above all things, though, a house is a home, a place where people live… a place where you live. Brooke DiDonato’s A House Is Not A Home depicts what it is like when your house is no longer your home, no longer a place you want to be, no longer a place you feel safe, wanted or loved.
It can be easy in this modern day to spend too much time alone at home, the internet connects you to others without ever having to leave the home, and entertainment is a click away with the likes of Netflix or Youtube. DiDonato’s series features a series of self-portraits portraying what she calls the ‘isolation and discontent’ she feels in her home. We found the images to be incredibly interesting and well executed, which does not surprise us at all – we have featured DiDonato’s work before.
Take a look at the series below; if you work from home, or spend a lot of time alone in your house, this may hit a little close to home (pun intended). Also be sure to check out Brooke DiDonato’s other works on Behance as well.
