There are a lot of hot new cameras we saw announced at Photokina. But before you go preordering your Panasonic LX100, Leica M-A, or what have you from B&H Photo make sure you don’t use Paypal. Otherwise you’ll be charged for a shinny new Canon 7D Mk II before it even ships despite the company’s policy to not charge you until it ships.
A Reddit user did just that and ended up being charged $1,800 on the spot. Normally when you pre-order an item with a credit card, the user isn’t charged until the item actually ships but this isn’t so with Paypal due to Paypal’s terms of service that states that they charge when the transaction happens.
Admittedly the Reddit user should have noticed the bold print warning. But this is also a unique quirk of ordering from B&H Photo. In contrast, Adorama will not charge customers immediately when ordering with Paypal.
